Aug 29, 2023In an age dominated by digital screens and instant gratification, it's easy to forget the age-old tradition of picking up a book—yes, a physical book—and getting lost in its pages. I recently found inspiration in the habits of one of the most successful men on the planet, Bill Gates. I watched a documentary about him and was fascinated to see that he carries a bag full of books wherever he goes. This got me thinking about my own relationship with reading and how it's intertwined with my thirst for personal growth.
An Anniversary Getaway with a Twist
So, my wife and I decided to do something a bit unconventional for our anniversary. We're going on a resort vacation, but instead of packing just bathing suits and flip-flops, we've decided to take some good old-fashioned books with us. While some may argue that an anniversary is a time for romantic gestures and lavish activities, we both agreed that spending time reading could be just as fulfilling. After all, personal growth doesn't take a vacation, so why should we?
The Importance of Personal Growth
There's something magical about immersing oneself in a book, especially a book that challenges us to be better. Whether it's a memoir of someone who has overcome significant challenges, a self-help book, or even a novel filled with life lessons, each page turned is a step toward becoming a more enriched individual. Personal growth isn't a one-time event; it's a lifelong journey. Bill Gates, despite his success, still seeks knowledge and self-improvement. If one of the busiest and most successful people on Earth finds time to read, surely the rest of us can too.
What are You Reading?
Before I dive into my list of books for the resort, I want to ask you something: What are you reading right now? And if the answer is nothing, what should you be reading that will help you grow? The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and sometimes that step is as simple as picking up a book. Not sure where to start? Here are a few recommendations.
Book Recommendations

The resort beckons, and so does the promise of uninterrupted reading and self-discovery. As we pack our bags, filled not just with essentials but also with food for thought, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement. So the next time you have a break, whether it's a weekend getaway or a stay-at-home retreat, consider picking up a book that will enrich your soul and stimulate your mind. After all, personal growth is the best gift you can give yourself, and sometimes it's found in the quiet corners of a page.
